Gingerbread House 2024
The Gingerbread House exhibition is back at ArkDes!
For over 30 years, ArkDes has invited children, young people, adults, amateurs, and professionals to showcase their gingerbread creations at the museum on Skeppsholmen. Building with gingerbread dough is a playful way to explore architecture and design. Gingerbread bakers find creative solutions for construction, durability, functionality, and decoration—just like architects and designers do in real life.
After a year of renovations and a canceled Gingerbread House exhibition in 2023, the exhibition makes its grand comeback in 2024 at Torget at ArkDes. Like an alpine town draped in snow, the gingerbread houses have been arranged on the custom-built podiums in the first room you encounter from the main entrance.
This year’s Gingerbread House theme is “comeback.” The word “comeback” originates from English and started being used in Swedish during the 1930s. It is pronounced [käm-bäk] and means to return or make a breakthrough after an absence. Participants are encouraged to interpret the theme in their own unique way.
The way participants interpret this year’s theme is a key element, as Gingerbread House is not just a showcase for creative gingerbread designs—it’s also a competition.
