Wood Construction Architecture

Wood construction is at the heart of efforts to make architecture and the construction industry more sustainable. Wood, as a carbon-storing and renewable building material, is often hailed as the key to a sustainable transformation of the construction industry. But it takes more than just “building with wood” to be sustainable.

The exhibition “Wood Construction Architecture with HUMAN. PLACE. HOUSE. MIND” uses selected projects to explore the social, architectural, spatial, and structural aspects required to build in a way that is truly ecologically, economically, and socially sustainable.

In its second edition, the exhibition “Wood Construction Architecture with HUMAN. PLACE. HOUSE. MIND.” at the HDA focuses more closely on international projects that offer diverse responses to the challenges of building with wood. These are complemented by research projects from Graz University of Technology, which highlight current developments at the intersection of materials research, structural engineering, and construction practice. In this way, the exhibition builds on Graz and Styria’s reputation as a major hub for timber construction, wood research, and the wood-processing industry, combining regional expertise with international insights.
