Eames Roadshow
The Eames Roadshow Exhibition presents the collaboration between the design duo Charles and Ray Eames and the Swiss furniture manufacturer Vitra.
The exhibition highlights various aspects of the design duo’s diverse oeuvre and offers insight into their legendary Eames House in Pacific Palisades near Los Angeles. Selected exhibited works illustrate their design approach while also shedding light on Vitra’s unique contribution to their legacy.
Charles and Ray Eames rank among the most influential designers of the twentieth century. In addition to their world-renowned, timeless furniture designs, they made significant contributions in architecture, film, exhibitions, graphics, and toys. Underlying their work was a solid and compelling design philosophy, characterized by a commitment to process and problem-solving, a pronounced skepticism toward style for style’s sake, and the fundamental idea that the role of the designer is similar to that of a good host, anticipating the needs of the guest. Equally important was that their work was imbued with a joyful spirit, captured by the saying: “Take your pleasure seriously.”
