Carte Blanche XX
A network show by the offices Denkstatt sàrl, Baubüro Insitu AG, Zirkular GmbH and Unterdessen GmbH.
The key to a climate-friendly building culture lies in the built world. This is the central thesis of the exhibition, which is being shown as Carte Blanche XX in the Architekturforum Zürich.
The climate crisis has long required a rethink. The existing building stock offers one of the best starting points for achieving climate goals. The "Swiss building", consisting of three million buildings, on average just 56 years young and from an ecological and social perspective still far from its peak, can only be maintained through use - and that is the good news.
The exhibition is designed as a "cabinet of curiosities" of projects across the emerging landscape of Swiss building culture. The project examples from the growing network of architecture and urban development focused on conversion, conversion, reuse, the common good and climate justice, which are set in dialogue with one another, show how the actors involved, their motives and agency, can be cooperatively reconnected. Across disciplines, a multitude of new practices, methods and strategies can be discovered that reveal a change in perspective on today's construction. As a "network show", Carte Blanche XX promises to be a rousing, co-productive, discursive and multi-voiced project.
The curatorial responsibility is assumed by the four companies linked by common values: baubüro in situ, Denkstatt sàrl, unterdessen and Zirkular. They all go back to a founding story around the architects Barbara Buser and Eric Honegger and are now being further developed by a new interdisciplinary generation of architects and city makers.
