Since its founding 25 years ago by Ulrich Müller, the Architektur Galerie Berlin has presented more than 150 exhibitions focusing on spatial installations. In addition to exhibitions by established architects such as Tatiana Bilbao, Caruso St John, gmp, and MVRDV, the program also regularly features "research projects" presenting the work of young architects and students. In addition, there are numerous book presentations, discussions, and screenings. In addition, Ulrich Müller publishes the calendar "AAB – Architektur Ausstellungen Berlin," operates the website "AEX – Architecture Exhibitions Platform," and initiated the "Architecture Exhibitions Weekend BERLIN" in 2018. In this respect, the original "gallery" has now mutated into a platform for a whole spectrum of educational formats and a wide range of content.

Over the past 25 years, not only has the architectural discourse evolved in line with socially relevant topics, but so have the forms of communication. While the first exhibitions were organized by mail and advertised with 30 (!) invitation cards, the goal today is to strike a balance between the "gallery" as a physical exhibition space and meeting place and the diverse possibilities of digital communication.

Against this backdrop, the question of a suitable exhibition or event arose for the anniversary. Given the numerous topics, it quickly became clear that a small program was necessary to assess the current status and, at the same time, look to the future. Therefore, there will now be two exhibitions, each with its own events (exhibiting architecture, publishing architecture books).

The first exhibition, "Open Archive – Architektur Galerie Berlin XXV," presents the gallery as a space with a publicly accessible archive and the opportunity for exchange with the founding director. The core of this format is the presentation of the now more than 70 "Storefront Images," with which architectural photographer Jan Bitter has documented every exhibition since 2010 from the same vantage point. The series illustrates the idea of making exhibitions part of public space and was added to the collection of the DAM German Architecture Museum in Frankfurt/Main in 2022. The setting is complemented by archival boxes containing invitation cards, press releases, and books. At the opening event, Amina Ghisu (DBZ) and Ulrich Müller will discuss "Exhibiting Architecture – The Potential of Architectural Displacement" with curators Teresa Fankhänel (KIT Karlsruhe) and Christian Hiller (ARCH+), as well as Louisa Hutton.

The exhibition "The Architecture Exhibition of Tomorrow" will follow in the summer. An open call is being held for this exhibition, which aims to find answers to fundamental questions about exhibiting architecture.
