100 Chairs on the Neumarkt

„1000 Chairs 1000 Trees“, a project by hdak to improve Cologne's squares, launched this public space intervention to highlight the opportunities offered by this important inner-city square. Thanks to the support of Kreissparkasse, Sparkasse Köln Bonn, and Cologne Business / City Management, the chairs are transforming Neumarkt into an "Italian piazza" and thus a meeting place for everyone.

The chairs represent communication. The trees represent air quality and temperature reduction. Both aspects are essential for a healthy urban climate. Communication leads to sustainable communities and combats isolation in the city. The trees improve air quality and reduce overheating, thus ensuring a pleasant experience in public spaces.
