Prize for Building in Existing Structures 2025

The “Bauen im Bestand” Award was presented for the third time by the Bavarian Chamber of Architects in collaboration with the Federal Foundation for Building Culture and under the patronage of the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts. The award honors building owners and planners who further develop existing buildings with high design quality and a responsible use of resources. The focus is on ecological, economic, and social aspects as well as the preservation of regional identity.

The exhibition “2025 Building in Existing Structures Award” presents the winning projects as well as the shortlisted entries through carefully selected images and informative texts. The exhibition and project presentations convey a key insight: demolition and new construction are (now) rarely the better alternative. Rather, it becomes clear that there is another way—and, above all, a better one, including for our climate.
