Founded more than 100 years ago in Kurashiki/Japan, Kamoi originally specialised in industrial adhesive tapes – primarily used for varnishing and painting – before becoming the foundation of washi tape as we know it today. At the exhibition SUPERGRAPHICS at Aedes, visitors can explore the history of adhesive tape in five chapters through an immersive exhibition and experience large-scale washi tape installations designed by mt Art Director Koji Iyama.

The exhibition also features a collaboration with the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK). In partnership with the art collective TAPE THAT, students from Prof. Gabi Schillig’s Class for Spatial Design and Exhibition Design (Raumklasse) will experiment with tape as both a material and a graphic and spatial design tool. TAPE THAT and Koji Iyama accompany the class in their artistic experiments, which will be presented at Aedes and further developed during the summer of 2025 in a design project by the Raumklasse at UdK Berlin.

As part of the mt Super Tape Festival, a network of selected support stores across Germany and Europe will host special events and workshops to showcase the versatility of washi tape. Of the 18 participating stores, eleven are in Berlin. Highlights include a live taping event by TAPE THAT at Modulor and the Prenzlauer Berg branch of boesner on 26 April. Aedes will also host a dedicated pop-up shop, offering both classic and limited-edition mt tapes, as well as exclusive festival editions – including designs directly linked to the on-site installations.
