Matter of Relationships
The exhibition "MATTER OF RELATIONSHIPS" showcases the architecture of Kengo Kuma & Associates. The firm strives to create relationships between its buildings and their surroundings, whether in the city or in nature, but also between users and the community as a whole. A central design theme is to explore how matter and organisms are connected through their needs, functions, and hopes. Connectivity, a sense of openness, the blurring of boundaries, humility, and the integration of natural elements are essential components of each building.
Kengo Kuma, known for his preference for natural materials and his restrained architectural language, led his firm from its beginnings in Tokyo in 1990 to an office with over 400 employees and offices in Tokyo, Paris, Beijing, Shanghai, and Seoul, realizing projects all over the world. He is actively involved in every single project and, with teams of varying sizes, explores the various physical and social contexts inherent in each design brief. They seek to establish relationships between their buildings and their surroundings, whether urban or natural, but also between users and the community as a whole.
