The Lightened Space
The artist Elke Maier designed a spatial installation for the Architektur Haus Kärnten, the idea, form and realization process of which are inseparably linked to the authenticity of the place in all its diversity and complexity, which is therefore unique and cannot be transferred to any other place and with which she deliberately intervenes in the space. With the help of a simple material, the finest white cotton yarn, a unique auratic interplay between light, space and matter is created. With a minimum of material and weight, she succeeds in creating voluminous spatial landscapes of atmospheric density. These are not punctual interventions, but a development of the work from the beginning in continuous dialogue with the space and light. The threads create an independent spatial body that is completely detached from the spatial shell, the walls. (Nora Leitgeb)
“Inside the room, from its center, a spatial organism unfolds that is no longer defined by its boundaries and (that) no longer seems to be enclosed by any body shell. An open, transparent space that itself has no boundaries and thus creates a moment of infinity within architectural boundaries." (Elke Maier)
The special "work in progress" at Elke Maier will be visible and experienceable for interested visitors from September 16, 2024.
