UMBAU
Remodeling means the continuous transformation of existing buildings. Given today's climate goals, remodeling must become the norm rather than the exception. With this in mind, gmp is presenting a current selection of the firm's approximately 100 renovation projects as concrete case studies for discussion – including two Munich projects: the Isar Philharmonic Hall and Hall E at Gasteig HP8, as well as the European Patent Office building.
What these projects have in common is the conceptual approach of remodeling: Starting with a comprehensive inventory, the existing structure is continued and further developed as an architectural evolution. Practice shows that remodeling must also integrate new settings and overlays. Remodeling is not a one-off, but a continuous transformation that continues into the future and connects generations.
In this spirit, the exhibition, which premiered at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2023 and has since developed its own focus in Hamburg, Berlin, New York, and Shanghai, offers a special perspective on local projects in Munich.
Opening: November 13, 2025, 7 p.m.
