Who has Shaped You?

Who shapes our creative identity? Did we consciously choose our role models, or were they imposed upon us? How do these role models influence our perception, our creative self-image, and our professional aspirations? How can we break these patterns?

Based on these questions, the exhibition aims for a critical examination of the influences and role models that accompany us so naturally, yet are rarely questioned.

The creative identity of architects is cultivated and shaped during years of training. Much of what accompanies us during this process is continuously reproduced across generations through a firmly established curriculum.

What significance do these influences have for public discourse and social justice? LOOM addresses precisely this issue: as a response and a counter-movement. As a space for visibility, reflection, and new role models.

The intersectional feminist collective LOOM at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences (BHT) was founded on the occasion of the Women in Architecture Festival 2025 (WIA25). Inspired by the history of women at the Bauhaus, who, despite supposed equality, were only allowed to study in the weaving workshop, LOOM, in reference to the concept of the loom, represents collaboration and the joint weaving of ideas.

Through dialogue and across generations, we want to reflect on the future of architecture and weave concrete, inclusive changes.

LOOM makes representation gaps in architecture visible and encourages a critical examination of our own role models, while also fostering a respectful approach. The guiding principles are diversity and inclusivity, as well as the ambition to broaden our perspective to include a wider spectrum of intersectional feminist viewpoints.

By recognizing and actively integrating diversity in our own environment, we can create architecture that is more socially conscious, culturally aware, and accessible to the public.

Opening: February 24, 2026, 7 p.m.
