The Joinery Archive

Wood Tradition for the Architecture of the Future
Address
Friedrichstrasse 5, 70174 Stuttgart
Hours
Tue–Fri 10 am–1 pm + 3–6 pm

The exhibition "The Joinery Archive" at the BDA Wechselraum showcases the diversity of traditional wood joints and their relevance to contemporary practice. With over 400 documented joints from around the world, it provides architects with in-depth insight into the craftsmanship and design sophistication of these techniques. Multilingual terminology in English, German, and Japanese deepens the cultural significance of the structures and invites further research.

Traditional wood joints crafted by students at the Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences will be presented. In addition, the process of a pavilion digitally created by students will be shown, illustrating the connection between traditional craftsmanship and modern manufacturing techniques.

The Joinery Compendium by Sascha Bauer and Daniel Pauli (Ruby Press, 1012) forms the basis for this exhibition. It compiles comprehensive knowledge on more than 400 joints on 896 pages. The book launch, held jointly with the authors and contributors, will open the exhibition on March 17 at 7 p.m.

Opening: 17.3.2025, 7 pm
