Günther Domenig – A different angle

Architectural Photography by David Schreyer
Address
Uferweg 31, Steindorf am Ossiacher See A-9552

Günther Domenig (1934–2012) was the outstanding figure in Styrian architecture since the 1960s. Radical, consistent and visionary, he went through a number of different architectural movements with his work, working with different partners and on his own. Domenig, whose main place of work was Graz, and who held the chair at the Institute of Building Theory at Graz University of Technology from 1980 to 2000, saw architecture as a synthesis of the arts and as a political statement. Numerous buildings in the country and abroad, drawings, writings, distinctions, publications and prizes testify to his great importance and are a yardstick of the diversity and power of his oeuvre. His eightieth birthday is an occasion to look at his work from a different angle.

The focus of the exhibition is on eight selected buildings that David Schreyer visited and photographed in 2013 and 2014. The aim of the show is not to present an exhaustive documentation of Günther Domenig’s work, but rather to immerse the visitor in its great diversity.

An exhibition of Haus der Architektur Graz invited by Architektur Haus Kärnten.
