Rural areas as the center of life are gaining increasing attention. They are places to dwell, live and work. You need modern technical, social and structural infrastructure. 70 outstanding buildings - from houses and barn conversions to inns, workshops, wineries, sports facilities and public buildings - show the diverse contributions architecture can make to a good life in rural areas.

Geographically, they are essentially concentrated in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, but are also located in neighboring European countries. They are described by their residents, builders or architects. This creates a variety of approaches from the perspective of mayors and winemakers, a library director, the head of a kindergarten, an entrepreneur and many others.

In Angermünde, a selection of these projects will be exhibited from December 19, 2023 at two locations in the Angermünde Museum and in the Town Hall. In addition, an accompanying program for different age groups and target groups takes place in January and February, which is also dedicated to regional construction projects.

Mayor Frederik Bewer: “We are pleased to be able to show this exhibition from the German Architecture Museum here in Angermünde. On the one hand, it should invite you to take a broader look at the impact of special buildings in rural areas and to deal with topics such as regional building culture and renovation but also financing and use. The exhibition also shows that such construction projects can advance the overall development of a region and therefore offer a lot of potential. We would like to encourage people from different age groups to engage with building culture, spaces in the city and in the country, and the design of their own environment.”

The exhibition location in Haus Uckermark in particular reflects a conscious approach to renovation in Angermünde in combination with modern design in the historic city center. The municipal building was renovated by the city and has been used as a museum, tourist information and event location since 2019.

The exhibition also refers to the Year of Building Culture, which was announced in 2023 by the Brandenburg Building Culture Initiative. The theme year focuses on all questions of building culture: In addition to the design of buildings, landscapes, infrastructure and public spaces, it also addresses questions of urban planning and development as well as sustainability and environmental compatibility.
