Aedes – Architecture and Space

Hours
Tue-Fri 11 am–6:30 pm, Sun-Mon 1–5 pm

Year after year, rural areas in Portugal continue to lose population. Villages and hamlets are becoming depopulated, the population is aging, and entire landscapes are losing their balance. In five communities in the heart of Portugal, a question is emerging that is gaining increasing importance throughout Europe: How can landscapes be preserved and sustainably developed for the future amid changing social conditions and in the face of the climate crisis? Landscape Together addresses this with a long-term approach centered on care, awareness, and collective action.

Under the leadership of MAG – Marques de Aguiar, international partners are developing experimental interventions, initiating educational programs, and bringing to light the hidden processes and potential of the landscape. Architects and practitioners from various disciplines work directly with local communities, combining spatial practice with site-specific knowledge and lived experience. This combination of research, design, and collaboration gives rise to site-specific interventions that respond to the landscape’s specific needs and open up new perspectives for the sustainable development of fragile rural areas.
