LIGA 43: Moments of Stress

Dubganem is an Argentine practice based in Buenos Aires, founded by architect Angie Dub and engineer Sonia Ganem. From this intersection of disciplines emerges a body of work that approaches each project as both a technical and an ethical question: systematically measuring and reducing the environmental impact of what they build, while bringing together structural and constructional rigor with a sensitivity to material.

Moments of Stress makes visible what architecture usually conceals. Within LIGA's space, a series of steel plates of varying gauges is suspended through a system of pulleys, tensioners, and anchors that holds them in a state of unstable equilibrium. Depending on its thickness and weight, each sheet deforms differently, tracing in the air the forces acting upon it. What we see is, quite literally, matter under the pressure of gravity: calculated deformation, put on display.
