N_AS \ New School of Architecture, Siegen
By transforming a former printing house in downtown Siegen into a teaching, learning, and studio facility, the Department of Architecture at the University of Siegen is achieving far more than just a change of location. The New School of Architecture Siegen views architecture as a social practice that not only shapes transformation but also brings it about. The project thus becomes a testing ground for an approach to architectural education that makes its own institutional environment the subject of design. The starting point was the conviction that the challenges of the present cannot be addressed merely by following established procedures.
The New School of Architecture Siegen sees itself as part of a broader discussion on the future of architectural education and is testing this approach in practice on-site during the renovation process. It did not remain a mere vision but became the starting point for numerous initiatives and new formats such as the Circular Bar, the Fusion Lab, the Innovation Campus, the Repair and Care Service at the 2023 Biennale, Spatial Mutations, and Intendere – Universities of the Streets, which connect students, faculty, the urban community, and regional partners.
The exhibition offers a glimpse into the inner workings of the New School of Architecture in Siegen as it takes shape. Fragments of plans and situations sketch out an idea that is still in the process of taking form—unfinished, transformative, and situational.
Opening: July 22, 2026, 7:00 p.m.
