The final exhibition of the year at České Budějovice’s House of Art presents the work of Copenhagen’s relatively young yet highly respected architecture studio NORRØN.

NORRØN is characterized by a strong sense for place and for their approach to context. It’s about more than just a sense for nature and the landscape – which they pay great attention to – but about properly responding to the specific nature and characteristics of any place, something they consider a vital ingredient of their projects.

This philosophy is reflected in their realized projects, for instance their various visitor centers (which are the focus of much attention in northern Europe), a number of farms, and also recreational and residential sites. Their projects are characterized by a sensitive restoration of the land, free of disruptive or unnecessary buildings, with clearly defined plans for protecting the surrounding nature and a highly sensitive approach to the construction of new buildings.

From their long line of projects, worth mentioning are their plans for the Dune Hotel in Blåvand, which boasts a beautiful view of the North Sea; the cabins of the Blue Plateau beach park; a lookout tower in the Lyttesholm bird sanctuary; an educational center in Gribskov done in cooperation with the University of Copenhagen; an observatory on Møn Island; a visitor center for the Camønoen nature path, also on Møn Island; and a visitor center for a castle ruin on Bornholm Island. In the rural areas of Guldborgsund, Lolland, and Vordingborg, they were entrusted with the renovation of abandoned buildings for recreational purposes with the goal of pumping life into the local economy. And last but not least, in the town of Thisted, they designed a recreational facility along the Limfjord, a project that was nominated for a Mies Van der Rohe Award in 2022.
