How can the Zeughaus and the adjacent Alte Wache be transformed into an attractive cultural complex where the Cologne City Museum can find a new (old) home?
Architecture students at TH Köln addressed this question in the summer semester of 2025 as part of their bachelor’s theses. Nine selected designs are now on display at the historic site—on the ground floor of the Zeughaus.
The exhibited models, plans, floor plans, and sections showcase new ideas for the future of the Zeughaus and open up new perspectives for the discussion about a neighborhood that currently offers little in the way of livability. The designs—all original ideas from the bachelor’s students—demonstrate how diversely an attractive urban space around the Zeughaus could develop. They make it clear that there is great potential here—not only for a museum site, but for a vibrant neighborhood in the heart of Cologne. Exhibition as a forum for discussion and exchange. The presentation of the students’ work comes at a time when many people in Cologne are discussing the future of the Zeughaus.

Opening: March 26, 2026, 5:00 p.m.
