Density of lives
Densify! For many, this is an injunction they consider in purely quantitative terms, a question of metrics such as people per square kilometre, site coverage, or floor area.
For ITAR, density is a much larger issue that encompasses many others: What is perceived density, built density or even desired density? Is density a tool, a prerequisite or an objective? And what if it were all these things: a way of understanding and responding to environmental challenges, urban sprawl, population growth and social and demographic problems?
Through the prism of specific cases, ITAR compares different analyses and presents constructive innovations that create desirable forms of urban life so that living in dense areas is always pleasurable.
Three books and an exhibition illustrate all these issues, which extend from the community to the individual, from shared space to refuge, from the city to the home. Make the traverse!
