The adventure of building
Dietmar Feichtinger Architectes is all about the joy of building. It's a tribute to all those involved in the work: workers, craftsmen, engineers, clients and architects.
Structure, as an essential element of construction, also characterises the projects. It opens up unexpected and surprising possibilities. Assembling it on site is part of the process. The fascination of these key moments in the creation of the work is presented in films and illustrations.
The constructive approach is evident in the studio‘s work. The bridges and footbridges they have built bear witness to this. More discreetly, but equally essential to the composition of the spaces, the structure takes its place in the construction of the buildings of Dietmar Feichtinger. All the visible technical components - ventilation, fluids, electricity - become elements that organise the space and tell the story of the workers' involvement. The precision in details demands the comprehension of the making and craftmanship.
The architectural language is direct and robust: a raw, visible materiality makes the composition readable and soothes the spaces. It facilitates future adaptations, including reuse. Natural lighting and ventilation, as well as energy efficiency, have been applied practices since the studio was founded. Lightness and transparency are omnipresent.
Architecture is seen as a stage, a place open to shared activities.
