Suspended Gardens

MDP (Michel Desvigne Paysagiste, landscape architecture firm) presents a collection of their “suspended gardens.” This exhibition features over a dozen landscapes, all highly urban and seamlessly woven into their architectural surroundings. These aboveground, on-structure gardens, with their unique geology, offer a radical vision of a paradox that is central to the firm: that a new kind of natural landscape can bloom in even the most developed urban environment. Sketches, collages, and models reveal the experiential approach guiding MDP. Often experimental and ever-evolving, this approach transforms hardscape spaces into archetypal gardens.Today, all the gardens in this exhibition have been completed.

From the Otemachi business district in Tokyo to the Ministry of Culture in Paris, these gardens are proof that technical constraints can be transformed into tools for creating a new kind of natural landscape – one scaled to size, richly layered, and resiliently adapted to meet contemporary climate needs.

Throughout the exhibition, architects, philosophers, ecologists, and elected officials will come together for roundtable discussions on these “suspended gardens” and their deft blend of aesthetic, technical, and sustainable innovation.

Opening: 27.3.2025, 6:30 pm
