Abrume
Based on a field study conducted by two former students of the Paris-Malaquais School of Architecture (PSL), Raphaël Guillemette and Gauthier Delvert, the exhibition "Abrume – Sur les traces des cabanes libres" (Abrume – In the Footsteps of Free Cabins) explores a fragile and little-known heritage: that of unguarded cabins. These shelters, scattered throughout the folds of the land, often invisible but very much alive, tell the story of another way of living, building, and, above all, of forming a community.
Designed as an accessible and educational exhibition, "Abrume – Sur les traces des cabanes libres" (Abrume – In the Footsteps of Free Cabins) is aimed at a wide audience: hikers, the curious, schoolchildren, construction professionals, and researchers. By highlighting this modest heritage, it questions our ways of building, living, and coexisting. The exhibition will be punctuated by numerous events—opening receptions and meetings—particularly during the European Heritage Days.
The exhibition is an extension of the book Abrume – sur les traces des cabanes libres, published in autumn 2024 by ULMER. It takes place in the Callot Gallery, the new exhibition space at Paris-Malaquais – PSL, recently renovated. This space, at the intersection of heritage and transmission, embodies the spirit of the project: making architectural research accessible, taking it outside the classroom and opening it up to all.
