Planetary Urbanisation
Processes of urbanisation have been profoundly changing our planet for generations. Entangled in the web of life and material cycles, they are causing far-reaching global crises that require our urgent action.
The exhibition presents key challenges of these processes and illustrates them through maps, photographs and films. They are based on ten years of research at the Department of Architecture at ETH Zurich, the results of which are illustrated in two thematic contributions: "Planetary Urbanisation" uses sixteen global metropolitan regions to show new concepts and mappings of urbanisation processes, traces the struggle against their effects and suggests possible courses of action. "Agrifutures Zurich" looks at the ongoing process of agricultural intensification and presents agro-ecological visions for an alternative, sustainable food production based on ecological practices, cooperation and socialisation.
The diverse accompanying programme of colloquium and guided tours through the exhibition as well as two new publications on the topic make the years of research accessible.
