I Love Chalets
I LOVE CHALETS explores transformations of the Swiss chalet through various forms of representation. For hundreds of years this building typology has travelled through media: first through memories and stories; later through sketches and pattern books; and now through digital photographs. Today, it has taken on newfound forms and associations that modify the buildings’ identity.
The exhibition brings together works by academics, architects, and photographers that expand on how the chalet typology is seen today, including design guidelines from an American immigrant town, a collection of pattern books and children’s novels, photographs of traditional chalets, buildings constructed through AI and modern day chalets in an alpine village in the Canton of Uri in Switzerland. Accompanying the exhibition is a lecture series in honor of art and architectural historian Kurt W.Forster and his essay on the chalet.
