Martin Mostböck's work is a fusion of design, material, and craftsmanship. In "The State of Things," the exhibition reveals how furniture, objects, and houses emerge from production, testing, and experimentation. On display are armchairs, tables, lamps, as well as houses and pavilions—works that showcase a unique world of materials and a practical, artisanal approach.

As an architect and designer, Mostböck develops ideas directly on the object: with knife, saw, and prototype, he tests and shapes his designs, making decisions in direct dialogue with material and production. Between functional clarity and playful form, the works tell stories, shift scales, and open up new perspectives on space, material, and everyday life. The exhibition at Aedes thus conveys the multifaceted picture of a creative output that unites architecture, design, and craftsmanship.

For 25 years, Martin Mostböck has moved between sketch and built architecture, between furniture design, interiors, and industrial design. The exhibition invites visitors to look behind the scenes: it focuses on genesis, craftsmanship, and materials. Thoughts that begin in the sketchbook end up on the workbench – and become part of lived spaces.

In the exhibition space, two landscapes of stacked cubes are on display. One is dedicated to architectural works, showcasing them with working models, scale models, material samples, plans, and sections. The other, larger structure presents the design objects for which Mostböck is known: tables, chairs, and lamps – each object with its own design history. This makes the industrial process, craftsmanship, and design development equally comprehensible. The exhibition brings together unique pieces with small and large production runs.
