Loys Egg
Offene Werke
Loys Egg develops models of space as spatial systems that are moveable and changeable. They form open systems as described by Umberto Eco in 1962 in his book The Open Work.
His sculptures are not closed systems of impenetrable mass, volumes subject to the laws of gravity, they consist of variable elements with gaps between them. Like the cosmic space of modern physics, which also consists of gigantic empty spaces. The sculpture forms a mobile network, a mesh in which the observer can intervene.
With his participatory and performative sculptures Loys Egg designs a new alphabet of space, a sculptural language of variable joints, intermediate and empty spaces.
