How can the socio-ecological transformation succeed in urban and rural areas? The project “Baustelle Transformation. Ten Strategies for Urban and Rural Areas” by the Association of German Architects (BDA) and the German Architecture Center (DAZ) presents ten strategies developed by architects and urban planners. They focus on the existing building stock, our most valuable resource on the path to a climate-just future. To shape change together and build acceptance for climate goals, they rely on dialogue and trial and error, on experiments and temporary uses—and call for shared responsibility rather than mere participation. With spaces for the community, productive neighborhoods, and contemporary housing models, new perspectives open up. This is how transformation becomes concrete and imaginable.

The exhibition opens up a space for discourse on ecological and social challenges. Here, the “construction site” symbolizes the multitude of unresolved issues and ongoing processes in the built environment. The ten strategies illustrate ways in which individual “construction sites” can be addressed. In this way, the exhibition offers a vivid introduction to socio-ecological transformation and invites visitors to identify potential, explore future living and working environments, and test their own opportunities for participation.
