Works with and without meaning by Monika Kunt, Denise Kretzschmar, and Astrid Wölk
Monika Kunt, Pastor
Her paintings reveal her innermost self, captured in wonderful, intimate scenes, mostly painted in the style of naive art. They are influenced by rural life in Thuringia, but also by the Baltic Sea, the place of her childhood. Clowns, in various actions, play a major role and humorously and thoughtfully convey their life experiences, processed lows, feelings, and thoughts. But they are also very detailed pencil drawings that capture nature with a loving eye.
K&W stands for Denise Kretzschmar, assistant to the Saxony site manager of B&O Bau und Projekte GmbH, and Astrid Wölk, a freelance architect in Dresden.
B&O's 2017 commission to redesign the new offices at the Dresden location marked the beginning of a friendship and a shared hobby. Both artists breathe new life into "lived wood" and other materials from construction sites, "stash items" from flea markets, and found objects of all kinds with wit and ulterior motives. They create small pieces of furniture, home accessories, sculptures, and installations.
The artists receive significant support and sponsorship from B&O Bau und Projekte GmbH with commissions, for example, for wall designs together with employees: in 2018 – location in Saxony, Semperstraße 2b – wall installation, and in 2020 – company headquarters in Chemnitz, Uhlandstraße 6 – designing door niches. Commissioned works such as "The Key to Success" and "Safe Bank" for special clients, partners, and colleagues of B&O significantly promoted and supported the development of K&W.
The close collaboration between Denise Kretzschmar and Astrid Wölk means repeatedly practicing equality, equal rights, and appreciation. In a recurring ritual, the ideas are thrown into an imaginary bowl, looked at, weighed, approved or rejected, solutions are sought, sometimes left to mature and... in the end, one marvels.
