Wir sind viele!
From June 20 to 29, the ZfBK – Center for Building Culture Saxony, together with the Chamber of Architects of Saxony and the bdla – Association of German Landscape Architects Saxony, will focus on women in the construction industry in an exhibition and a variety of accompanying events.
The world of architecture is complex and multifaceted – yet, with a look at both the past and present, it highlights how women often remain invisible in the construction industry and in planning professions. "WIA – Women in Architecture 2025" is the first nationwide festival dedicated to raising the visibility of women in architecture, interior design, urban and open space planning, as well as in building and civil engineering, and building culture. From June 19 to 29, more than 200 participants from across the country will present 265 projects. The aim of the initiative is to promote the discourse on women in architecture, urban and open space planning, and building art, and to strengthen equality for female planners and diversity in building culture. Designed as a decentralized networking event, the festival promotes broad networking and exchange among institutions, associations, and initiatives.
In Saxony, exhibitions will be shown at the ZfBK – Center for Building Culture in Dresden, as well as in Chemnitz and Leipzig. Many other formats at other locations complement the festival program. The exhibition "We are many! – Female Planners in Saxony" at the ZfBK in the Kulturpalast Dresden was initiated jointly with the Chamber of Architects of Saxony and the bdla – Association of German Landscape Architects, Saxony Regional Association. Using exemplary female protagonists, the show highlights the impressive works and careers of female architects and planners in and from Saxony, highlighting their achievements and their commitment to greater equality. The exhibition also marks the launch of the website www.planerinnen-in-sachsen.de, which showcases all participants in the project and will serve as a digital archive in the future.
The diverse and extensive accompanying program also invites participants to debate gender equality and diversity in the industry, reflect on barriers facing women, and explore solutions that will lead to a fairer and more inclusive world of architecture. The vernissage will take place on the opening day of the WIA Festival, June 19. The other formats—from a reading with bestselling author Alexandra Zykunov to guided tours of the urban space and networking evenings for women—will be organized by the Chamber of Architects and the bdla (German Association of Interior Architects), the bdia (Association of German Interior Architects in Central Germany), the German Werkbund Saxony (German Association of the Werkbund Saxony), Bauwende Sachsen (Saxony Building Transition), and many other stakeholders.
Opening: 19.6.2025, 6:30 pm
