On Sunday afternoon, October 20, the exhibition 'De Bakenes, monumental heart of Haarlem' will open in the ABC. This exhibition in the ABC-Kunstgang will feature hundreds of drawings that Sak van den Boom made of almost all the buildings in the Haarlem neighborhood of Bakenes. Part of the opening is the presentation of the book of the same name with Sak's drawings and texts by Ton in 't Veld. The first copy of 'De Bakenes' will be presented to mayor Jos Wienen.

For the exhibition and the book, Sak van den Boom drew almost all the houses in the Bakenes, a monumental neighborhood in the heart of Haarlem. The Bakenes is the neighborhood that is bordered by the Nieuwe Gracht, the Spaarne, Damstraat, Klokhuisplein, Riviervismarkt and Jansstraat. This involves more than 400 buildings that are shown on 17 posters measuring 140 by 100 cm. For the book, Ton in ’t Veld wrote stories about the Bakenes, focusing on the past of this part of Haarlem that has more than 169 national monuments. At the opening, Ton in ’t Veld will discuss the discoveries he made during the research for the stories.

Opening: 20.10.2024, 4 pm
