The exhibition “Women Building - Looking for Traces in Carinthia” shows portraits of Carinthian pioneers and representatives of architecture and building culture for the first time. The show tries to close a gap in history, because if you take a look at the books or the Carinthian building archive, you immediately notice that it is mainly male architects who are listed and documented there. The program focus on women building offers the ideal opportunity for initial research, because women have also been shaping and shaping our environment for over a hundred years.

The research spans graduate directories, membership lists of the Central Association of Architects in Carinthia, individual coursework, small publications, and personal conversations with family members and acquaintances. Exciting life stories, courageous decisions and a passion for architecture and building culture can be found in everyone.

“If I were born again, I would do it like that again, even under the same conditions. People wouldn't trust a woman to have a career in the construction industry. I had to try harder, do more, but in some area everyone - including a woman - has special strengths where they can perform at least on the same level as men." Structural engineer Gertrude Gabler in an interview with Alexandra Schmidt, 2012
