Alban Janson
By aimlessly wandering over the paper, loosely touching the drawing surface with a pencil or broad chalk, something like haze or noise can initially arise. You start to draw without knowing what you are drawing. You dare to start. But you do not randomly spread graphite or pigment on the paper; instead, your hand pokes and feels around attentively in the space of the picture surface. As you lurk and search, scribbling, something can suddenly appear in the noise, grow out of it, a configuration can emerge. Now you have to react and feel, finally grab hold and gradually identify shape by involuntarily and arbitrarily picking out elements. This is an extremely open-ended way of approaching a drawing.
Opening: November 15, 2024, 7 p.m.
