Melanie Ebenhoch

Cross-Section of the plant

From April 24 to July 3, the exhibition spaces at (Kunst)Haus 2226, designed by BE Architekten in Lustenau’s Millenniumpark, will feature a comprehensive selection of works by Melanie Ebenhoch, an artist born in Feldkirch in 1985 who now lives and works in Brussels. The exhibition features both existing and brand-new works spanning a spectrum that ranges from oil-on-canvas paintings to painted, object-like, round synthetic resin reliefs (tondi) and architectural ceramic sculptures.

Ebenhoch, who studied at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam, and the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht, operates at the intersection of painting, sculpture, and installation in her artistic practice. Her work is strongly inspired by cinema, particularly films from the 1940s to the 1960s. She examines the portrayal of female roles and the psychological charge of architectural spaces. Frequent subjects include interiors, sets, architectural fragments, or everyday details such as light switches and wallpaper patterns, which can create an eerie or voyeuristic atmosphere. Using stylistic elements of illusionist painting and cinematic staging, she highlights inner psychological and social conflicts that arise in domestic settings. Visual impact and narrative are in constant tension with one another.
