The successful exhibition PLACE by the Copenhagen architecture studio Dorte Mandrup, originally instigated by Aedes and shown in Summer 2022 in Berlin, is currently presented at Liljevalchs Kunsthal in Stockholm. This joint collaboration is the initial event of the Stockholm based action group Pop-Up Arch, a new cultural network-initiative to increase the public awareness for the relevance of architecture and urban space. Prior to the opening at Liljevalchs through Vice Director Isak Nilson, the architecture critic Kristoffer Weiss from Copenhagen moderated a conversation with Dorte Mandrup, the Stockholm artist Jonas Dahlberg and Hans-Jürgen Commerell from Aedes Berlin about the notion of context within modern art and architecture. Aedes Architecture Forum serves at advisor for Pop-Up Arch.

About PLACE at Liljevalchs
Endless Horizontal lines, extreme cold, wind and ice, collective memories and rugged shores. Danish architecture studio Dorte Mandrup employs an artistic, humanistic and scientific approach to design buildings that are deeply connected to the places from which they arise. It is not about being sentimental, but rather a need to give something meaningful back and enhance the understanding of each place. The exhibition PLACE is the studio's love letter to context and invites us to explore and unearth the local stories that have inspired the architecture of four unique projects.

Each project is presented through a sculptural model that highlights the dialogue between place and building and, like Stockholm, have a relation to water. Visitors are taken on a journey through four different locations, from the yellow-brown marshes of the Wadden Sea to the breathtakingly vast scale of the Arctic, and the mysterious landscape hidden beneath the surface of Norwegian Sea. The exhibition extends beyond the building themselves to reveal artifacts, materials, and studies that allow visitors to follow the creative process and understand how Dorte Mandrup works with context.

The exhibition is produced by the Copenhagen-based architecture studio Dorte Mandrup and is presented at Liljevalchs in a collaboration between Aedes Architecture Forum in Berlin and PopupArch Stockholm.
