The luca – Luxembourg Center for Architecture and the Kirchberg Fund are exhibiting a selection of photographs from the documentary work carried out by Christian Aschman on the Kirchberg Plateau.

For more than fifteen years, the Kirchberg Fund has entrusted distinguished representatives of contemporary photography with the mission of documenting the urban and architectural evolution of this constantly transforming territory. For the 2022–2023 edition, it is the turn of Christian Aschman (born in 1966) to bring his photographer's gaze to this place where historical strata are juxtaposed and where new constructions appear while others disappear.

Driven by a desire for completeness, Christian Aschman traveled this territory for more than a year and carried out more than fifty photographic sessions. During this exercise, he managed to access a certain number of buildings to capture views from the heights revealing a universe hidden from the eyes of pedestrians. Graphic lines drawn by chance or by the hand of man compose these plunging views with carefully chosen framing. The vegetation, sometimes controlled, sometimes luxuriant, appears as a subject in its own right, while humans rarely enter into the composition. It is also the very expanse of the Plateau that we rediscover through the eyes of this photographer who is passionate about architecture.

Opening: November 8, 2023, 6:30 p.m.
