A wide variety of wood gives a lot of fire. Despite this saying and plans for thermal recycling, an interdisciplinary team from the universities of Konstanz, Stuttgart and Karlsruhe spent two years investigating pioneering concepts for how the innovative reuse of formwork elements from the construction of the new Stuttgart main station can make an ecological contribution to the construction sector.

The results will be presented in an exhibition in the gallery of the StadtPalais - Museum for Stuttgart from December 5th. In addition to aesthetic and functional aspects, the exhibition uses structural planning, legal and ecological balance questions to shed light on the practical suitability of re-use and the specific challenges of large-scale upcycling.

Plans, photographs and models show a possible use of formwork elements in various real-world laboratories in Baden-Württemberg to conserve raw materials and reduce CO2 emissions. At an interactive exhibition station, visitors can experience the real laboratories and dimensions of the reused components on a 1:1 scale and try their hand at building their own virtual structures.

Opening: 5.12.2024, 6 pm
