And Now!

The exhibition "And Now – Acute Positions of Young Offices on Architecture and Planning" opened in 2024 at the Weißenhofgalerie Stuttgart and will continue on May 17, 2025, starting at 6 p.m. at the Werkbund Galerie Berlin with a supporting program. The exhibition showcases the works and perspectives of the offices INTO STORIES, forty five degrees, o r t o, POLYCARBONARA, and Studio Malta. Lena Engelfried, Christian Holl, and Hanna Noller were curators.

What does the future of architectural practice look like? The present provides an answer to this question. An answer is provided by those who are shaping tomorrow today, who will have to live with the consequences of today's actions longer than others. It becomes clear that traditional concepts and working methods are only partially suitable for meeting current challenges, and that the professional profile must be reformulated to encompass what is now pending, what must be addressed and overcome: climate change, preservation of existing buildings, conversion, co-production, the circular economy, resilience, social cohesion, community, fairness, demographic change.

We must relearn how to reuse, maintain, and repair things and buildings. We should treat buildings with the same care as the people who use them. We can recognize and promote the social qualities of built space. We can share resources and learn from one another. The exhibition presents the works and perspectives of the firms INTO STORIES, forty five degrees, POLYCARBONARA, o r t o, and Studio Malta as examples of a new practice. They demonstrate that our understanding of architecture must change with the demands we place on it. But they also show that precisely this is possible. Not soon, not someday. But now.
