State Architect
Address
1, rue de la Tour Jacob, Luxembourg 1831
Hours
Tue-Fri 12 am-6 pm, Sat 2-6 pm

Charles Arendt (1825–1910) is among the most influential architects of 19th-century Luxembourg. As the first state architect, he oversaw the Grand Duchy's transformation into a constitutional monarchy and significantly shaped the design of its political, religious, and public buildings.

His projects combined function and symbolism: they embodied the authority of the state, created places of worship, and opened spaces for a society in flux. Balancing representation and everyday life, continuity and renewal, Arendt forged an architectural language that continues to shape the cityscape today.

The exhibition invites visitors to (re)discover Charles Arendt as the architect of a nation in the making, whose buildings embody an era of change and lay the foundation for a vibrant architectural culture.

Opening: November 25, 2025, 6 p.m.
